16,635. Philippe, A. July 19. Aerial machines with aerostats; cars.-A rigid aerostat is provided with a spherical forward part and a spherical aft portion of lesser diameter than the balloon body. The car 11 containing the engine &c. is suspended by metal straps 10. Propelling.-The propeller is mounted at the front of the balloon body, and is driven by shafts 12, 12<a> through bevel-gearing 15, the lower shaft 12 being carried by a lattice girder 13 secured to the balloon. The shaft 12<a> is carried by a tube. Steering-Elevators 22 are pivoted at 23 at each side of the balloon, and the fore and aft ends move in grooved sectors 24. The operating- cords are passed through tubes 25. A rear vertical rudder 6 is pivoted at the end of the balloon.
