[Cognate Application, 17,629/11.] Ball bearings. - In dynamometers of the water-brake type, adapted for taking measurements when the rotor is driven in either direction, the resultant axial thrust or tension in the shaft D, due to the absorption of the greater portion of the power by the water on one side of the rotor, is balanced by the reaction of a bearing E, Fig. 6. This bearing has a ring G fixed to the stator of the dynamometer, and is adapted to resist the thrust of the balls k<1>, k, according as the shaft D transmits a thrust or a tension.
