Abstract

9247. Hutchison, A. J., [Crook, P. M.]. April 13. Easel stands. - I n easels comprising front and rear inclined supports and a sliding frame to' support the blackboard, which is connected to a counterbalance guided on the rear support, such counterbalance is arranged to be readily removable, and to embrace the support. Means are also provided for automatically locking and unlocking the frame according as the board is removed or replaced, and for locking the frame in any position. The counterbalance 13, sliding on the back support 10, is attached by a removable pin 23, Fig. 8, which may carry antifriction rollers 14. It is attached to the sliding frame 7 by a cord 12 passing over a pulley 11. The guiding and securing devices for the frame comprise parallel bars 6 on the front of the easel, upon which the frame 7 is guided, and a hook-ended spring- pressed clamping-bolt 20, Fig. 6, with a thumbscrew for operating it. The arrangement employed for automatically locking the frame when the board is removed consists of a spring-pressed cranked finger 18, upon which the board normally rests, so as to depress it and release a pawl 17, mounted upon its further extremity, from a rack on the bar 16. When the board is removed, the finger 18 rises under the action of the spring, and the pawl engages the rack to prevent the counterweight from raising the unloaded frame.
