Packing, non - metallic. - A packing, particularly for use in connexion with valve-rods and piston-rods, comprises an asbestos sleeve 6, of open texture, packed with a graphite lubricating-mixture such as graphite, oil, and asbestos dust. Fig. 1 shows an appliance for forcing the mixture 2 into the sleeve 6. For security, the sleeve when filled may be traversed by cross-stitching, and several such packings may be connected by asbestos or like webs 8, Fig. 4.
