Abstract
15,203. Parker, Winder, & Achurch, and Froggatt, W. June 25. Open fire-places. -A boiler 1 is arranged in contact with the lower part of the rear of the fireback in a flue 3, so that it is not in contact with the fire or visible from the front, and dampers 7, 10, operated in conjunction with the canopy 14, regulate the flow of combustion products. With the dampers in the position shown in Fig. 1, the smoke &c. passes only up the front of the fire-back. To heat the boiler, the canopy is pushed in, closing the centrally-pivoted damper 10 by a link 13, and opening the sliding damper 7 by means of the rod 9 attaching it to the top of the damper 10. The smoke &c. now passes entirely up the back flue and behind the boiler.
