Abstract

13,671. Heintz, K. June 27. Primary batteries.-In a battery of the Bunsen type, the depolarizer consists of nitric acid dissolved in sulphuric acid of 30 per cent or more concentration, this solution being strengthened when necessary by the addition of a mixture of about equal parts by .weight of concentrated sulphuric and nitric acids. A carbon diaphragm is employed, and the exciting-liquid is a neutral solution of zinc or iron sulphate according as zinc or iron is the dissolving metal. With these materials, the battery may remain assembled when not working without waste of soluble metal.
