Abstract

26,728. Boult, A. J., [Nacke, E. H.]. Nov. 24. Lubricators.-In a lubricating - system for internal - combustion engines in which oil after lubricating the engine is returned by a pump to a supply tank, a collecting- tank A is provided beneath the crank chamber B, of such size as to contain all the oil from the supply tank C, so that superfluous oil can no t accumulate in the crank chamber. Oil is forced by a pump E from the tank A to the supply tank C, and passes through outlets F controlled by valves G to the parts to be lubricated. The tank C is provided with a filter K and a gauge-glass H in sight of the driver. A pipe N equalizes the pressure in the crank chamber and the tank C. A part of the oil escaping from the main bearings 0 is collected by catches P, Fig. 4, or by grooves T, Fig. 5, and is conveyed by passages Q to the crank-pin bearings R, whence tubes S lead to the pins U at the ends of the connecting-rods V. Instead of providing tubes S, the connecting-rods may have passages W. Passages X, Fig. 5, may be formed in the crank-shaft webs to facilitate the escape of surplus oil from the bearings O.
