Abstract

Straight-bar knitting-machines.-An independent thread-guide saddle or carriage and driving and checking apparatus for the same are used to each breadth of work. The saddles B slide upon a fixed bar A and carry fixed thread-guides B' and movable " plating " carriers G<1>. Stop rods D, E, racked by the usual fashioning screws carry compound stops such as D<1> with pivoted inclines D<6>. Before the driving-bar F completes a traverse, studs F<7> on vertically-slid able driving-bolts F<6> run up the inclines D<6>, thus disengaging the bolts from the saddles. On the return journey, the studs F<7> lift up the pieces D<6> and pass on without impediment. As the saddles are released, their studs B<2> are checked by springs D<4> on the stops D<1> and are finally brought to rest against a surface D<3>. The plating- carrier G<1> is given the necessary " lead," as shown by dotted lines, by the engagement with an extension piece F<8> on the driving-bolt in advance of the engagement of the latter with the saddle. The carrier G' is restored to the centre position at the selvedges by adjustable stops H.
