4336. Bingham, C. Feb. 22. Electric furnaces.-In a furnace applicable for making calcium carbide, the core which solidifies in the tapping-hole D is fused, when required, by current passed between one of the main electrodes B and a supplementary electrode E, in or just outside the tapping-hole and in two or more parts.
