Gas cooking-stoves; gas fires; combined or convertible solid-fuel and gas stoves. - A gas heating and cooking stove comprises in combination a gas fire 1 at the lower part, an oven 26 above it, a movable hot-plate 20 provided with gas burners and adapted to be extended for use and collapsed when out of use, and a high-pressure boiler 5 behind the fire. The gas fire shown comprises the usual refractory elements 3 behind which is a fluted refractory plate 4. An inclined flue 7 beneath the boiler leads to flues beneath and around the oven 26. The tubular burner of the gas fire may have two sets of nozzles, preferably with separate taps, one set heating the elements and the other being inclined towards the flue 7; or two separate 'burners may be used. 'Preferably, however, the burner 11 is of the form shown in Fig. 7, and is arranged in bearings 13 so that it may be rocked by a member 14 to direct the flames on to the heating unit or the boiler, or partly on to both. The hot-plate element 20 is hinged at 21 so that when not in use it may be folded up in front of the oven doors, as shown in Fig. 6, the gas-supply pipe being jointed as shown at 25, Fig. 9, for this purpose. The complete gas-fire unit is attached by means of hooks 33a, and, together with the burner 10 may be removed and replaced by an open coal firegrate, which is attached in the same way. The combustion products from the coalgrate pass through the flue 31 beneath the canopy 33.
