Abstract
199,268. Hotham, Frederick William, Baron. July 8, 1922. Twist drills, sharpening.-The twist-drill to be ground is pressed against two vertical posts B, C, Fig. 1, the front end resting on a pin G and the rear end on the upstanding end of a spring H. The drill is pressed towards a grinder I' until one edge is sharp and is then backed-off by depressing the rear of the drill, keeping the drill pressed against the grinder F, and at the same time slightly rotating it. Theposts B, C are carried by a table A adjustable in a socket E and are located in a vertical plane which makes an angle of 59‹, that is, half the angle between the two cutting edges, with the face of the grinder. The spring H is constrained between screw-stops J, K. In a modification, the drill is located on a shelf L, Fig. 3, pivoted to the post B and held against a stop M by a spring N. Specification 198,925, [Class 106 (ii), Dynamometers &c.], is referred to.
