Coins and the like, separating and sorting. - The coins pass by means of a hopper 4 to an inclined distributing-drum 7, and from thence to a coin shoot 20 provided with a guide rail 25 and slots 28 of various sizes corresponding to the coins of the various denominations and such as to permit the coins to overbalance and fall into hoppers 29 beneath the slots 28 and communicating with compartments 30 in which the various coins are separately received. The distributing-drum 7 is provided with a partition 16 dividing it into two portions having spiral ribs 15, 18 which guide the coins to slots located at the peripheral edge of the partition 16 and the upper wall 6 of the drum respectively when the drum is rotated by a handle 13 through gearing 8, 9. To secure an even and uniform distribution of the coins through the outer slots to the coin shoot, the motive mechanism is provided with a two-part clutch 11, 12 which limits the speed of rotation. The lower end of each hopper 29 is provided with a slot 32 for the reception of rotary kickers 33 mounted on a common shaft 34 rotated by the handle 13 through chain mechanism 43. These kickers engage the coins in the lower parts of the hoppers 29 and eject them into the compartments 30 and into engagement with registers 46 which total the number of coins passing. The guide rail 25 is provided with a gap 26 through which mutilated coins of narrow width may slide into a separate compartment 27. In a modification, several interconnected coin shoots 20 may be provided for sorting.
