Abstract
184,203. International Dry-Milk Co., and Dick, S. M. Feb. 4, 1921. Spray evaporators.-In obtaining dry milk powder, milk, admitted by a pipe 34, is sprayed by a centrifugal sprayer 35 into the upper end of a chamber divided into an evaporating- zone A, an air-exhaust zone B, a drying-zone C, and a collecting-zone D. Air, heated to 150-168‹ F., is supplied through vertical trunks having openings 29, 32 to the zones A, C and passes through the zone B to a surrounding chamber 10 and by openings 13 to the atmosphere. Part of the air passes from the zone C through openings 15 in its lower part to the surrounding casing 16 and through dampers 18<a> to the chamber 10. The zone B may be open to the chamber 10 or may be surrounded by radial-deflecting plates 14 which may be surrounded by cloth. Air may be supplied to the zone B, through openings 30<a>. A trough 9 is formed at the base of the zone A to receive liquid that reaches the walls. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 28767/06, 141,763, 145,079, and 150,007.
