Abstract
A product which when dissolved in water gives a clear solution containing aluminium formate and an alkali salt is obtained by mixing an alkali formate and an aluminium salt the acid component of which is stronger than formic acid, in the proportion necessary for complete double decomposition. By way of example, sodium formate and aluminium sulphate and alum are mentioned as suitable salts. In order that the product may give a durable solution, the solid materials are partially or wholly desiccated before mixing, e.g. by heating in a vacuum. The products are suitable for pharmaceutical use.
