Abstract

161,438. Tyre Machinery Syndicate, Ltd., (Doughty, H. J.). April 9, 1920. Tyres, elastic, special apparatus for making.-A fabric strip for use in building-up tyre covers is formed by winding one or more bands 10, 11 consisting of parallel cord or tapes or a single strip of webbing about a pair of spaced wires or other edge-reinforcing cores 13, 14. The material 10, 11 is carried on spools 8, 9 mounted on a turn-table 7 driven by bevelgearing 18, 19. The wires &c. 13, 14 are fed from spools 12 over pulleys 17 and a spacing-plate 15, to a driven roll 27 which co-operates with a pressure-roll 26. The consolidated strip may be led directly to the tyre-forming core 28 which is driven by worm gearing 40, 39. The roll 27 may be driven from the core-shaft 29 by a belt 45. Fig. 6 shows a typical construction of tyre comprising two layers 50, 51 of the special fabric and other reinforcing-strips 52, 53 built on a foundation 47.
