Abstract
168,581. Trent Process Corporation, (Assignees of Trent, W. E.). Aug. 31, 1920, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Carbonizing processes.-Water gas, carburetted or otherwise, is made by passing a carbonaceous substance in a state of fine division such as comminuted coal, lignite or lamp-black, together with a fluid such as steam, water, or oil through a coiled pipe heated to about 1000‹ C. The carbonaceous substance with steam or water only results in the formation of water gas, the addition of oil to the mixture producing carburetted water gas. Gas may also be obtained from a mixture of the carbonaceous, material and oil only or from a mixture of oil and water. The apparatus comprises a mixing-receptacle 1 provided with an agitator 2 and from which the suspension is passed by a pipe 4 and pump 4' to a heating-coil 5. The gas passes through a scrubber 8 to a holder 10.
