Abstract
167,384. Justice, H. H., and O'Brien, E. J. July 29, 1920. Radiators, motor-car and like.-In an internalcombustion engine, means are provided to assist the usual radiator in cooling the water used for cooling the cylinders, and simultaneously to warm the air supplied to the carburettor, and comprise a number of air-flues 13 horizontally disposed in a water jacket 1 in the form of a large chamber 2 above the heads of the engine cylinders 3, connected by a vertical pipe 4 to the top of the radiator 18. The forward ends of the air-flues are joined preferably to a conical member 17 through which cold air enters. The rear ends of the air flues are connected by a flexible pipe 14 to the intake of the carburettor 16. The suction of the engine draws air through the funnel 17 and flues 13, thereby cooling the water and warming the air and also avoiding the necessity of the usual fan.
