Abstract
1532698 Making sand moulds KUBOTA Ltd 21 Jan 1976 [18 Feb 1975] 02291/76 Heading B3G After filling a mould box with sand 40 and ramming it, the mould casting cavity 30 is obtained by removing sand by a rotary cutter 23 associated with a machine controlling the cutter movement and hence the cavity shape. The cutting may be effected by blades 25 on arms 24 attached to a rotary hub 21 on a support 22 associated with a cavity-profile-controlling machine. The blades, which may be adjustably mounted on their arms, compress the cavity wall and may include a passage 50 for the emission of a liquid hardening agent on to the cavity wall; alternatively the passage may be connected to a vacuum source for sand removal. In order to produce a core for use in association with a casting cavity, a first cavity is produced as described and its walls coated with a parting agent; sand is supplied to the cavity and rammed to produce the core which is removed; the cavity is again cut as before to provide the final casting cavity into which the core is replaced. Two such cavities and cores may be clamped together face-to-face to provide a mould for the casting of a pipe.
