Abstract

152,638. Heitmann, M. J. Oct. 14, 1919, [Convention date]. Capillary-action lubricators.-A siphon tube for delivering lubricant from an oil cup is formed with a restricted inlet opening so that emptying of the tube when removed from the cup is prevented by surface tension and adhesion of the liquid. As shown, the suction end d of the tube is closed, and is formed with small lateral inlets b. External grooves c may be provided to keep the outer surface wet. When the tube is removed from the liquid, air bubbles e are formed and a drop f collects at the delivery end, but the tube does not empty itself. A wire sieve may be placed in the tube above the inlets b. In a modification, the tube is open at both ends and contains a wire or thread which is bent into loops at the suction end to form a restricted opening.
