Abstract
1526160 Heat pipes TELEFONAKTIE BOLAGET L M ERICSSON 5 July 1977 [9 July 1976] 28187/77 Heading F4U A cooling system for dissipating to the surroundings heat generated in equipment 20, e.g. transmitter or computer equipment in an aircraft, comprises a heat pipe 18 having an evaporator portion 19, thermally connected to the equipment, and a condenser portion 22 thermally connected to a porous heat conducting body 13, an evaporable liquid being supplied to the body 13 in use of the system. As shown, the body 13 comprises a sheet of sintered copper located in an aperture 12 in an aircraft fuselage 11 and secured to a plate 16 forming one end of the heat pipe. A liquid, e.g. water, is fed through an inlet tube 15 to channels 14 provided in the body 13. Alternatively, if the body 13 is located adjacent to the inlet of a jet engine, an inflammable liquid, e.g. methyl alcohol, light petrol or jet fuel may be used instead of water.
