Abstract
1524074 Sintered silver cadmium oxide barium composite SQUARE D CO 12 July 1976 [15 July 1975] 29577/75 Headings C7A and C7D An electrically conductive composite material consists of a mixture of Ag, not more than 20 wt. per cent CdO and a Ba compound equivalent to not more than 10 wt. per cent Ba, such as at least one of the oxide, peroxide, hydroxide or carbonate. The preferred composite consists of 15% CdO, 0À194% Ba as the oxide the balance Ag. The composite is made from a mixture of Ag and CdO powder which is heated in a reducing atmosphere to form a Ag-Cd alloy which is then heated in an oxidizing atmosphere at 180C below the melting point to form Ag-CdO. After adding a solution of a Ba compound to the Ag-CdO, the slurry is dried, heated to form the required Ba compound, sieved to -100 mesh B.S. and then compacted and sintered in air at 930C. The sintered compact may be coined at 60 t.si.
