Abstract
1523903 Coating compositions HOECHST AG 4 Sept 1975 [5 Sept 1974] 36520/75 Heading C3B Coating compositions comprise as binder (A) a reaction product of a curable polyester and a partially blocked polyisocyanate, and (B) up to 38À5% by wt. (referred to the total of A) of an epoxy resin. The polyester may contain at least one OH group per molecule and may contain one at least trifunctional acid or alcohol component and a minor proportion of a monofunctional acid or alcohol. It may have OH No. 100-220, m.p. (capillary method) 60-90‹ C. and a melt viscosity at 130‹ C. of 100-1400 poise. Typical polyesters are based on phthalic, iso- or tere-phthalic acids optionally in conjunction with adipic acid, as the major acid constituent. The polyisocyanate, e.g. isophorone diisocyanate, may be (partially) blocked by a phenol in a lactam, e.g. e-caprolactam. The epoxy resin may have a m.p. # 70‹ C.; examples are a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or triglycidyl isocyanurate. In addition to the polyester, a further OH-containing synthetic resin may be present, e.g. an acrylic or vinyl polymer or a polyurethane resin. Catalysts, pigments, fillers and flow agents may additionally be present. Examples relate to powder coating compositions.
