Abstract

1521672 Dewatering sludge CHAMPION INTERNATIONAL CORP 10 March 1977 [14 Dec 1976] 10090/77 Addition to 1521207 Heading C1C [Also in Division C3] Activated sludge is dewatered by acidifying the sludge to a pH not greater than 2À2, heating the sludge to form 150‹ F. to 210‹ F., maintaining the sludge at this temperature for a time sufficient, as determined by gravity settling rate tests on samples of the heated acidified sludge, to obtain a settling rate in the first 3 minutes of test of at least # inch/min. and separating water from the sludge at from 150‹ C. to 210‹ C. The sludge is preferably acidified with sulphuric or hydrochloric acid.
