Abstract
1515933 Treating alloys L H HOCKING and L N SMITH 5 Oct 1976 [6 Oct 1975] 40894/75 Heading C7D [Also in Division B3] A Ni-alloy may be inoculated using cobalt monoxide or aluminate or deoxidized using calcium or carbon compounds by locating the inoculant deoxidizer in the lower portion 18 of a charge 13 in a cruciple with the Ni-alloy located in the upper portion 16 and subsequently melting the upper portion using an induction coil 20, the molten metal subsequently melting the lower portion 18 to effect mixing prior to the indroduction of the metal into a shell mould 6. The inoculant or deoxidizer may be located in recesses in the charge 13 or be in the form of disc between a bar and a disc of the Ni-alloy Fig. 2 (not shown) or as shown in the form of a disc located below a cylindrical bar of the Ni-alloy.
