Abstract

1511621 Stabilizing polymers based on vinyl chloride RHONE-POULENC INDUSTRIES 7 Jan 1976 [10 Jan 1975 22 Sept 1975] 0531/76 Heading C3K Vinyl chloride polymers and chlorinated vinyl chloride polymers are stabilized by a mixture of a conventional divalent metal carboxylate stabilizer and a compound of formula in which R1 is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, aryl, or cycloalkyl, the cycloalkyl radical optionally contains ethylenic unsaturation, the aliphatic chains of the said radicals optionally containing one or more O, CO, or COO linkages; R3 represents R1 or hydrogen, or R1 and R3 together represent a divalent alkylene radical optionally interrupted by O or N with the proviso that the carbon atoms adjacent the CO groups are not doubly bonded to C or O and that not more than one of said carbon atoms is contained in an aromatic ring; R2 is H, alkyl, alkenyl optionally containing one or more O, CO or COO linkages, alkyl-CO, or aryl if R1 and R3 are not aromatic, or a radical of formula where R1 and R3 are as defined above and R5 is C1-6 alkylene. The stabilizer combination may also contain a phosphite or pentacrythritol. The preferred metal salts are Ca/Zn stearate and Ba/Zn stearate.
