Abstract

1508691 Electrode holder for a furnace INST ELEKTROSVARKI IM EO PATENA AKAD NAUK UKRAIN SSR 4 Feb 1976 04427/76 Heading H5H An electrode holder for a multi-electrode arc, plasma arc, or electroslag furnace is composed of a plurality of superimposed electrically conductive plates 1 which are electrically insulated from one another by interposed insulating gaskets 2, each support plate having a plurality of holes corresponding to the number of electrodes and the plates being held together so that the holes are aligned, some of the holes of each plate being provided with contact surfaces 5 from which electrodes 3 are suspended and the remainder being large enough for the electrodes 3 to pass therethrough with clearance. The contact surfaces 5 are frusto-conical or in the form of a truncated cone and cooperate with complementary shaped stubs 4 which are secured to the consumable electrodes 3. Each plate is hollow and supplied with coolant for the contact surfaces 5. Terminal lugs project from each plate for connection to a supply 9. Each plate supports some electrodes 3 whilst allowing the free passage of others. In Figs 1-5 (not shown) instead of the three plate three phase electrode holder shown, a two plate electrode holder is illustrated in which each plate supports two electrodes by its contact surfaces.
