Abstract

1508585 Seats CHAIR DESIGN ASSOCIATES Ltd 6 June 1975 [8 March 1974] 10581/74 Headings A4H and A4J A knock-down chair comprises two side frames 3, a base frame having parallel cross-members 6, and clamp means which secure the side frames to opposite ends of the cross-members, the clamp means comprising rods 13 extending under tension between the sideframes to hold the cross-members under compression. Each rod 13 may be replaced by two rods extending under tension between the respective side frames 3 and an intermediate portion of the cross-member 6 to hold the end portions of the cross-member under compression. The rod 13 is located in a channel or aperture in the cross-member 6, or the two rods are screwed into nuts in the cross-member. The outer ends of the rods are threaded and pass through apertures 15 in the side frames and are secured by nuts 16 therein. A backrest 2 is secured to the side frames 3 by threaded studs 19 and nuts 16. The crossmembers 6 and backrest 2 have dowds 11, 21 that engage in recesses in the side frames. The chair includes armrests, and has legs or is mounted on a swivel base 23.
