1506760 Incinerators CEA COMBUSTION Ltd 4 Oct 1976 [3 July 1975] 28110/75 Heading F4B In a waste burning incinerator comprising an upwardly extending container having a peripheral wall 6 tapering inwardly in an upwards direction defining a combustion chamber 3 and a gas- or oil-fired burner 13 for igniting waste in the container, a plurality of air inlets 8 are provided in the peripheral wall 6, said inlets being inclined both in a downwards direction to stir up waste at the bottom of the container and at an angle to the normal to the peripheral wall to generate a cyclonic vortex of air within which waste material fed into the chamber 3 via a loading door 16 is entrained. The burner 13 is also inclined both downwardly and to the normal to the peripheral wall. The loading door 16, which is mounted in an aperture 17 in the tapering wall 6 and is L- shaped, has plates 18 and 19 and is pivotable about a hinge 20 to permit the tipping of waste into the combustion chamber 3. A secondary combustion chamber 21 having a burner 22 is provided downstream of chamber 3 for oxidizing any noxious components present in the waste gases. The incinerator, which is contained in a housing 26 connected to a pressure fan 27 via a duct 28, is also provided with a number of sight tubes 29, an ash door 31, and a waste deflector 30 for preventing a static accumulation of waste at the bottom of the container. The combustion chamber 3 has a lower peripheral wall portion 4 tapering inwardly in a downwards direction.
