Abstract

1506567 Watercraft for carrying land vehicles R M WOLFENDEN 12 June 1975 [14 March 1974] 11356/75 Headings B7A and B7V A watercraft is propelled and steered from a wheeled land vehicle carried by it and comprises a pair of spatially adjustable pontoons P whose spacing is adjusted to suit the vehicle's width, means for connecting at least one propeller to the craft and to the power unit of the vehicle and means for steering the craft from the vehicle. Each of the pontoons P carries a channel 3 to receive the wheels of the vehicle and jacking means to raise the driving wheels of the vehicle which are subsequently connected to a transmission 62 of the flexible type. Alternatively the transmission may be of the fluid hydrostatic type. When the craft is in sufficiently deep water, a propeller unit is positioned within stern struts 59 and 60 and the transmission then connected to it. For steering either the craft has a rudder (not shown) or the propulsion unit is steerable, and means are arranged on the craft so that movement of the steering unit of the vehicle moves which ever of these is provided. The craft carries ramps 55, a stowable after deck 51, a bow unit 45 and detachable land wheels 63 for towing the craft overland behind the land vehicle.
