Abstract

158,755. Burch, J. B. Dec. 2, 1919. Hand and like bags; purses; pouches.-Travelling bags, hand-bags, purses, cigarette cases, &c. are stiffened at the seams, edges, or other parts by metal rods, strips, tubes, or helical spring coils enclosed in the usual piping having a selvedge which is attached to the article or in piping formed in the article itself. The bag shown in Fig. 3 is stiffened by a frame C extending along the top and side outside edges and across the ends at the bottom, the frame C, Fig. 9 being enclosed in the piping B, which is attached to the bag by the selvedge E. When the bag has a flexible or hinged bottom, the frame is hinged or provided with a coil at D. The piping and enclosed rods &c. may be arranged within the bag &c. Additional rods A enclosed in a piping B<1> or in a fold of the material of the bag &c. may be placed in the sides of the article.
