Abstract

Cylinder and other lubricating-oils are obtained by digesting at about 200-300 DEG C. asphaltiferous crude petroleums or petroleum residues with Florida earth, Kambora earth, or other hydrosilicate or with a substance containing hydrosilicic acid, followed, if necessary, by filtration through hydrosilicate. The hydrosilicate is regenerated by washing with benzene, or carbon tetrachloride or disulphide to dissolve out the impurities.
