Abstract
1439624 Hydraulic winches BENOTO-SAM 3 Oct 1973 [3 Oct 1972] 46226/73 Heading B8B A winch for hoisting a load and allowing the load to fall freely includes a cable drum 11 driven by a reversible hydraulic motor 8 whose rotor is connected to the drum and is capable of rotating freely with respect to the stator upon application of an auxiliary control pressure to the rotor. The motor 8 has supply and return ports 8a, 8b for powered winding in or paying out, and a control port 8c which when pressurized disconnects the drive between stator and rotor of the motor 8. A band brake 13 is normally applied to the drum 11 under spring pressure, which spring is compressed by fluid pressure to release the brake automatically when pressure is supplied to drive the motor and also when a cylinder device pilot valve 51 is manually operated to produce the command control pressure at motor port 8c for free fall condition of the drum. The control pressure generated by the valve 51 is limited by a calibrated relief valve 57 in line 56, and is also fed through line 58, and check valve 59 to safety pressure relief valves 44, 45 where the control pressure suppresses the pressure setting of these valves 44, 45 which are set to short circuit the pressure from the main pressure supply pumps 29, 30 to tank upon a predetermined limit which sets the motor torque available, being exceeded. This prevents the supply of pressure to drive the motor whilst the free fall condition exists. The main pressure pumps comprise high and low output pumps 29, 30 enabling the motor to be driven at different speeds, the supply from the pump 30 being controlled by a manual direction control valve 35 and that from the pump 29 by a similar valve 42, the two supplies being connected in series for supply to the motor. The valves 35, 42 permit progressive control of the rate of flow of hydraulic fluid therethrough to control the motor speed within the range of the appropriate pump delivery rate. An accumulator 55 in the line 54 between the valves 51 and motor part 8c absorbs fluid from the motor housing when motor drive is selected and assists the pressure from the valve 51 when the drive is neutralized for free fall.
