Abstract
1438499 Cooling flue gases in chimneys; boiler chimneys F E BEAUMONT Ltd 19 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 58998/72 Headings F4S and F4J In a method of removing potentially corrosive constituents from boiler flue gas, the gas is directed upwardly through a chimney 19 comprising a passage 26 in which the gas is cooled by a heat exchanger surrounding the passage, condensate being drained from the passage, e.g. through an outlet duct 28. The heat exchanger may for example comprise a waterjacket 18 and in use, the water may be circulated by a pump 33 through a cooling radiator 34 of arcuate form (see Fig. 5) before being returned to the jacket. Cooling water pipes 36 may extend across the gas passage from the jacket. The gas inlet 24 to the chimney passage is relatively small so that the entering gas is initially cooled somewhat by expansion. The inlet 24 may form part of a cyclone separator 22 for removing solid matter from the gas (entering the separator at 20) via an outlet 23. The chimney passage 26 may contain a conical or disc-shaped baffle 29. A conical deflector (14, Figs. 1 and 2b) having drainage means (15) therein, may be fitted at the upper end of the chimney to prevent the entry of rainwater whilst the chimney is under test. Holes (16, Figs. 2a, 2b) may be provided in the chimney wall to receive temperature probes, also for test purposes.
