Abstract

1437134 Defoaming device AMERICAN HOSPITAL SUPPLY CORP 8 June 1973 [19 June 1972] 27448/73 Heading AST [Also in Division B1] A defoaming device for use with an inhalation therapy humidifier comprises a housing 13a connecting the outlet 5 of a bottle for liquid to a humidifying column 8 within the bottle, the housing 13a having two chambers 30, 31 formed by a transverse partition 24, each chamber having an aperture 33, 32, respectively the apertures being rotationally offset about the housing and communicating with the interior of the bottle. A dry gas tube 26 extends through the partition 24. The housing is connected at the bottom end by the snap-fit engagement of a rib 23 on a lower flange 22, with a groove in a flange at the top of the humidifying column 8 so that the dry gas tube 26 communicates with a gas tube in the column 8. A top end flange 21 of the housing which may be formed of a thermoplastic material, is permanently bonded to a cap 4. An adapter 15 which is substantially as described in Specification 1433888 is positioned to supply dry gas to the mixing column which is substantially as described in Specification 1431558 and to supply humidified gas to the patient after it has passed from the mixing column 8 to one chamber 31 of the housing, via the other chamber 30 and one aperture 32 to the bottle, and thence through the other aperture 33.
