Abstract

1434461 Polishing compositions EMERY INDUSTRIES Inc 30 April 1974 [17 May 1973] 18949/74 Heading C5W [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A novel mixture of high molecular weight aliphatic saturated monocarboxylic acids suitable for use in compositions as a substitute for montan or carnauba wax or beeswax contains by weight (a) 70% or more acids containing more than 22 carbon atoms, (b) at least 55% of the acids in the range C 22 -C 35 , (c) less than 20% in the range C 35 -C 60 , and (d) the ratio of odd to even carbon content acids in the C 22 -C 25 range greater than 1À5 : 1. A composition suitable for use as a polish for shoes and other leather articles is made from 4À5 g. of such a mixture, 3À0 g. carnauba, 1À5 g. microcrystalline wax, 21À6 g. paraffin (m.p. 140-145‹ F.), 70 g. turpentine and 2 g. black dye.
