Abstract

1431753 Stress relieving welds HOTWORK Ltd 16 May 1973 [17 May 1972] 23213/72 Heading C7N Apparatus for annealing a circumferential pipe weld comprises an annular channel-section casing the open face of which is complementary to one surface of the pipe. The channel is sub-divided by a perforated wall parallel to the base, and a source of hot gas injects a high velocity stream into the chamber formed by that wall and the base of the channel, from where it is uniformly diffused into the inner annular chamber. The weld may be sandwiched between the casing and a co-operating tubular component on the other side of the pipe wall. As illustrated casing 14 includes channel 17 which is sub-divided by wall 18 into outer chamber 20 and inner chamber 21. Hot gases are injected tangentially through diametrically opposed inlets 20 and diffuse through perforations 19 before escaping through outlet ports 23 in the side walls of the inner chamber.
