Abstract
1431628 Intra-uterine device inserter FUJI LATEX CO LTD 3 May 1974 [26 Feb 1974] 19443/74 Heading A5R A dispenser for an intra-uterine device comprises a tube 1 split longitudinally into two opposed members a and b held together by elastic means r and having an enlarged section 2 to receive an intra-uterine device, and a plunger (5) as illustrated in Figure 5 (not shown) for forcing the intra-uterine device from the expanded section 2 through the tube section 1', against the action of the elastic means r, to exit at the end 4. In the embodiments disclosed the elastic means consist of one or more rubber rings r which may also serve to indicate the depth of insertion of the device into the body. The plunger also may carry markers to indicate the depth of insertion of the plunger (and thus the position of the IUD) in the tube. The expanded section may be provided with covering surfaces 12 to prevent the IUD from falling out of the dispenser. In the embodiment of Figure 12 (not shown) these surfaces are enlarged and also act as guides for the IUD. The leading ends of the opposed members a and b may be provided with opposed recesses and protrusions to prevent misengagement of the two halves during insertion of the dispenser into the uterus. The plunger has a cup-shaped end to receive the stem of the IUD.
