1429968 Gripping tools T H MILBOURN 29 Nov 1974 [5 Dec 1973] 56389/73 Heading B4W A clamping tool comprises a body 2 carrying a first clamping surface 8, and a slide mounted on an elongate extent 4 of said body and carrying a second clamping surface 14 adapted to cooperate with said first clamping surface, the slide comprising a housing 10 mounted in which is at least one rigid link 20, one end of the (or each) link 20 being pivotal about an associated fixed point within the housing and the other end of the (or each) link being pivotally mounted to, to carry thereon, an abutment 22, and resilient means 24 urging said abutment member and link or links into an operative position in which a surface of said member 22 frictionally engages a surface of the elongate extent 4 of the body 2, whereby said extent is gripped between said abutment member and a wall 28 of the housing and relative sliding movement between the body and the slide is prevented in one direction, the tool further including means 32, 34 for releasing the abutment member from said operative position whereby said slide is slidable, in either direction, relative to the elongate extent of said body. The slide may be reversed for use as a stretching tool.
