Abstract

1425999 Vortex separators SIEMENS AG 19 April 1973 [26 April 1972] 19205/73 Heading B2P A helical-flow vortex separator for classifying fine-grained particles according to size is of the general type described in Specification 1425482 except that the inlet for introducing particle-laden gas into the vortex chamber 1, Fig. 2a, is in the form of an annular aperture 5. As shown, the aperture 5 is defined between a rotationally-symmetrical flow body 4 and the wall of an inlet tube 2 which may be axially adjustable. Helical flow-imparting vanes 6 may be mounted in the aperture 5. The gas/ fine particle outlet 16 is fixed. In a modification, Fig. 3, instead of auxiliary gas inlet nozzles being provided as at 8 in Fig. 2a, a nozzle ring ring 20 is mounted on a gas/fine-particle outlet tube 21 which may be stationary or axially adjustable. In a further modification, Fig. 4a, the inlet tube portion 31 surrounding the body 30 is closed below the lower end of the body and has, near the bottom, one or more tangential particle-laden gas feed inlets 32, 33. Guide vanes in the annular gap 34 may be dispensed with. The body 30 may be interchangeable with bodies 30', 30" of varying diameter to vary the width of the gap. A plurality of separators, Fig. 5 (not shown), may be connected in series, the spacing between the gas/ particle inlet aperture and the auxiliary gas inlets increasing from stage to stage in the downstream direction.
