Abstract

1425940 Cleaning extruders MONSANTO Ltd 29 Nov 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 59324/72 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions C7 and F2] Polyethylene residues, left in or on plant (e.g. polymerization equipment or extruders), are contacted by a liquid below - 50‹ C. and then fragmented and removed. The fragmentation may be produced by hammering, scraping, gouging, or, in the case of a polyethylene layer clinging to a surface, levering between the layer and the surface. The liquid may be liquified nitrogen, air or oxygen. The liquid may be applied to only localized areas of the residues; e.g. it may be passed into holes drilled in the residues.
