Abstract
1423055 Measuring gas concentrations electrically VSEOJUZNY NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ANALITICHESKOGO PRIBOROSTROENIA 11 April 1973 17427/73 Heading G1N A gas analyzer comprises a sorption chamber 4 containing a heating coil 5 overlying substantially the whole of the tapering side walls and a solid sorbent 6, e.g. alumina, capable of absorbing combustible gases, the opening 13 being an inlet for the gas mixture, the top of chamber 4 communicating with a combustion chamber 2 which contains two heat-sensitive elements 9 and 10 for connection to an electrical circuit, the electric resistance of the elements changing as a function of the temperature of the elements, one of which is adapted to promote burning of the combustible gases. The elements may be made of platinum with a solid carrier, e.g. alumina, thereon and on element 9 the carrier is coated with a catalyst, e.g. a platinum-palladium mixture. The gas mixture is introduced through 11 into the chamber 4 where the sorbent absorbs the combustible gases and the remaining components of the mixture pass through chamber 2 into the atmosphere. The heating coil 5 is then switched on and the combustible gases are desorbed from the sorbent and pass into chamber 2 where the elements have been heated to the combustion temperature. Burning on element 9 increases its temperature causing a signal in the electrical circuit proportional to the quantity of gas.
