Abstract
1419667 Siren K KOLAR 17 Dec 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 58285/73 Heading G5J A siren with coaxial cylinders 22, 23 has a seal 29 between them to prevent the compressed air supplied via pipe 26 to chamber 27 from leaking via the gap 32 between the cylinders. The outer cylinder 22 is rotated by a motor 20 while the inner is still. The seals and cylinders have communicable openings 28, 30, 31. The opening in the seal 30 may be larger in diameter than that of the stator 28. The seals may be held in place by ring-like projections (33, Fig 2, not shown) surrounding the passage openings on the stator, or by depressions (34, Fig. 3, not shown). Grooves (37) may be provided in the bottom of each depression such that the air pressure pushes the seal against the rotor, alternatively a layer of resilient material such as foam rubber may be used. The sealing element may be made from the form of carbon used for electrical brushes, or synthetic plastics. The rotor may be of copper.
