Abstract

1416925 Magnetic position indicators SIEMENS A G 21 Aug 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 39668/73 Addition to 1329627 Heading G1N An apparatus for use in a potentiometer or electronic position indicating apparatus of the type which includes two magnetic field sensing parts as described in Specification 1329627 includes a rotatable magnet flux generator arranged symmetrically with respect to the two parts so that as it rotates an output signal is provided which varies with the relative rotation of the flux generator and sensing parts. Each sensing part includes permanent magnets 4, 6, pole pieces 8, 12 and 10, 14 and magnetic resistive members 20, 22 forming symmetrical biasing flux paths 30, 32, gap 38 being filled with diamagnetic material. Permanent magnet disc 24 magnetized diametrically along an axis mutually perpendicular to the magnetization axis of magnets 4, 6 is mounted on shaft 26 which may be the output shaft of a planetary reduction gear. The two magneto-resistive members 20, 22 are connected in adjacent arms of a constant D.C. energized resistance bridge, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the position of the disc 24 shown the magnetic flux 36 of the disc adds to that passing through member 20 and subtracts from that passing through 22 causing an output from the bridge. As the disc rotates the overall flux in 20 reduces and that in 22 increases until no flux 36 passes through members 20, 22. Further rotation causes the overall flux in one member to increase and in the other to decrease whereby a sinusoidal output voltage is obtained from the bridge circuit.
