Abstract

1409565 Pelletizing apparatus SIMONBARRON Ltd 23 Oct 1973 [11 Nov 1972] 52165/72 Heading B5A Pelletizing apparatus comprises a pair of rolls of steel or other rigid material rotatable about parallel axes, having axially spaced continuous circumferential grooves on each and with a resilient coating covering the profile thereof, the rolls being arranged so that the grooves of each mesh with the lands between the grooves on the other, means to rotate the rolls in opposite directions and means to feed particulate material to the nip between the rolls so that the material is compressed thereby. As shown in Figs. 1, 4, rollers 10, 11, formed from steel or other hard metal are mounted on axles 12, 13 and have grooves 14 with lands 15 therebetween with a coating 16 of rubber or other resilient material. The spacing between axles 12, 13 may be adjusted by rotating handle 17 to move bearing blocks 18 of axle 13. Powder is fed from belt 21 into hopper 19 and to opening 20 above the nip. The width of each groove 14 decreases with its depth and the width of each land 15 increases with its depth, the voids formed thereby between the rolls being sealed by coating 16. The breaking of the ribbons into discrete pellets may be facilitated by radial projecting teeth on the rolls or an automatic cutter may be provided.
