Abstract
1404765 Hinges ARTHUR SHAW MFG Ltd 24 Oct 1972 [13 Nov 1971] 52831/71 Heading E2F [Also in Division F2] A hinge, for use in hanging a centrally pivoted window within a fixed frame, comprises two relatively rotatable components 1, 2, die cast from an aluminium or zinc base alloy, and a plastics bearing assembly 11 received in a housing 5; a layer of copper 5a providing a bearing surface within the housing. In the embodiment shown the plastics assembly 11 is non-rotatably mounted on the component 1, the housing 5 is formed entirely in the component 2, and the copper layer 5a is flash plated onto the housing surface; a sleeve 16 being adjustable by screw 17 to expand the assembly 11 against the housing to prevent relative movement of the components if required. However both components can be rotatable about the bearing, assembly and each cam define a copper lined housing portion. The layer 5a can comprise a copper or copper plated sleeve or bushing fitted in the housing. The bearing assembly 11 is a moulding of low-friction plastics such as P.T.F.E., polypropylene, nylon, or acetyl resin and may include fillers such as graphite, kieselguhr, or metal powders. Attachment flanges 3 are provided with counter-sunk fixing holes (4, Fig. 2, not shown). Specification 1245573 is referred to.
