Abstract

1400074 Coating ferrous strips with metal by hot dipping ARMCO STEEL CORP 4 July 1972 [30 July 1971] 31271/72 Heading C7F In the coating of a ferrous strip with zinc by hot dipping the coating is cooled or heated by fluid from nozzles 30 which may be controlled to give e.g. a greater cooling effect at the centre of the strip. The control may be manual or automatic, e.g. by using radiation pyrometers or the reflectivity of the coated strip. In a modification, Fig.4 (not shown), two rows of nozzles may be provided, one being supplied with heating and the other cooling fluids. Solidification nuclei are supplied to the coating from a device 24 when the zinc is at a temperature just above freezing point.
