Abstract

1499558 Cutting sheets R L CARLSON 20 Nov 1975 47833/75 Addition to 1395121 Heading B4B A cutter assembly for cutting sheet material comprises a cutter bar 154 located above the material to be cut, a freely rotatable cutter wheel 136 urged into contact with a cutting edge 152 of the bar and mounted on a carriage 138, 162, which is slideably mounted on a track 134, and a handle 168 secured to the carriage for effecting movement of the latter to cut the material. The cutter wheel is rotatably mounted on a shaft 138 provided at one end with a member 140 having a wear-resistant member 142 for engagement with the track 134 and at the other end, engaging in a member 162 to which the handle is attached. The wheel is urged into contact with the cutter bar by a spring-loaded plunger 144. In order to increase the loading when the cutting, downward pressure is applied to the handle causing the member 162 to pivot the shaft 138. The edge of the material is clamped during cutting by a gripper bar 182 urged by springs (184) Fig. 8 (not shown) into contact with the material; the gripper bar is released by handles 186, 186a. In the modification shown in Figs. 10 and 12, the cutter wheel is carried by a shaft 230 provided at one end with a roller 232 for engagement with a track and supported at the other end by a bracket 234 slidably mounted on a bar 208. The bar is provided with pivotably mounted portions 214, 214a such that when the handle 236 is moved downwardly to increase the cutting wheel pressure, the gripper bar 222 is automatically urged into contact with the material via a pin connection 226, 228, Fig. 10. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,395,121.
