Abstract

1498425 Mining machines DOSCO OVERSEAS ENG Ltd 4 Sept 1975 [6 Sept 1974] 39009/74 Heading E1F [Also in Division B8] A mining machine comprises a cutting head 4, a conveyor 7 for conveying mined material rearwardly of the machine, and an extendable discharge conveyor 12 for unloading the mined material to one side of the machine. The conveyor 12 may comprise a main frame 30 pivotally mounted for movement about a horizontal and a vertical axis and a telescopic extension 34, a constant tension of the belt being maintained during extension and retraction of the extension 34 by means of a roller 40 carried by the extension, a roller 41 carried by the main frame and a tension roller 42. Alternatively the constant tension may be maintained by forming a loop in the belt between two rollers mounted on the main frame. The mined material in front of the machine may be collected by an endless chain conveyor encircling the front of the machine for conveying the material towards one side and subsequently rearwardly of the machine, or by a gathering apron having collecting arms for sweeping the material on the apron towards a centrally positioned conveyor. The material is transferred from the conveyor 7 to the conveyor 12 by means of apertures 9 or 10. The discharge conveyor 12 may be mounted on the main frame of the machine and the cutting head and conveyor 7 mounted on a sub-frame mounted for forward and rearward movement on the main frame. Alternatively the conveyor 7 may be mounted on the main frame and a further conveyor together with the discharge conveyor are mounted for forward and rearward movement on the main frame. The cutting head 4 may be mounted on a telescopic arm 3 which is pivotable about a horizontal and a vertical axis.
