Abstract
1498363 Gel-impregnated sponge H S AKRONGOLD and R AKRONGOLD 13 Feb 1976 05773/76 Heading C5D An impregnated sponge is made by a process which comprises inserting a gel-forming material in a mould, immersing part of a sponge in the gelforming material while the latter is in a liquid state at a suitable elevated temperature, allowing the gel-forming material to set after removal from the mould, inverting the sponge while not compressing it and allowing the gel-forming material to migrate inwardly, then allowing solidification to be completed. The sponge may be of polyether-polyurethane foam which is fully or partly reticulated (defined), and has at least two layers at least one of which is impregnated and one at least is not impregnated. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, impregnated layers 14, 22 and 26 have unimpregnated layers 12 and 24 adjacent thereto. The gel-forming material may comprise a soap or a synthetic detergent such as diethanolamine ricinoleate, an imidazoline surfactant, sodium lauryl-sulphate, an alkanolamide or di- and triethanolamine lauryl sulphate. Other components may be sodium stearate, a polyimide, isostearic acid or a polyamide. Other solid foams may be of polyester polyurethane, latex, natural rubber, silicates, polyolefins, ceramics and cellulose.
