Abstract
1496348 Insulating cover for hot tops E VALLAK 10 Dec 1974 [11 Dec 1973 21 May 1974] 53393/74 Heading B3F In casting metal bodies, a heat insulating member comprising at least one layer of ceramic fibre is placed over the top of a mould (Fig. 2, not shown) or a ladle. The heat insulating member may be in the form of a cover comprising an Fe, or Al plate container 3 inside which are a plurality of layers 1 (as shown, three) of compacted or loose ceramic fibres, each layer may be separated by a Al foil 2. Various compositions of ceramic fibres are disclosed including mixtures of some of Fe 2 O 3 , TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , ZrO 2 and Cr 2 O 3 . The container 3 may be adapted at its lower edge so that the molten metal does not contact the cover allowing for re-use of the cover.
